This 9'0" hand-shaped surfboard transformed into a sculptural landscape through earth pigments.
Soft sandstone, ochre and mineral tones move across the board in fluid gestures, punctuated by charcoal and subtle rust-colored marks. Created using materials gathered from the Southern California landscape, the work carries the color and texture of place onto a form intrinsically connected to the coast.
Painted with earth pigments gathered from Santa Barbara, Malibu and Topanga.
At nine feet tall, Darrilyn has a monumental presence; existing somewhere between painting, sculpture and surf object, and exploring the relationship between land, material and ocean.
Created in collaboration with surfboard shaper Mike Wallace of Iconoclast Surfboards.
