This one-of-a-kind 8'0" hand-shaped surfboard brings the landscape of the Southern California coast directly into the work through locally gathered earth pigments.

Warm terracotta and sandstone tones form the foundation of the piece, while charcoal, mineral grey and soft white gestures move fluidly across its surface. The natural variations of the pigments remain visible, giving the board a depth and materiality that reflects the landscapes from which they were collected.

Painted with earth pigments gathered from Santa Barbara, Malibu and Topanga.

Created in collaboration with surfboard shaper Mike Wallace of Iconoclast Surfboards, the 8'0" form sits between functional object, painting and sculpture; an exploration of the relationship between land and ocean, material and place.
