SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Pigments of Place: Southern California explores the connection between landscape and material. Earth pigments gathered from Malibu, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Topanga; including sandstone, charcoal gathered from the Palisades fire, black tourmaline, and shells, are transformed into paint, allowing the land itself to become part of each work. Rather than depicting the landscape, these paintings are created with it, preserving a tangible sense of place.
